Welcome to another installment of 5 Questions with a 5-Year-Old. Today, Zoey chats with Jason Miller, Master Model Builder at LEGOLAND Florida.

Having previously chatted with master builder Chris Steininger, Zoey went into this interview with a bit of existing knowledge about LEGO master builders. Still, I don’t think she was prepared for what waited inside the LEGO Factory.

Nestled near the entrance of LEGOLAND Florida is a relatively small building that most people pass right by. It’s not open to the public and isn’t an attraction you can visit (except on the very pricey VIP Experience.)

Inside is a veritable wonderland of LEGO. In short, it’s the model workshop where Jason Miller and his remarkably small team of master builders construct all the LEGO models you see in the park. Life-size models you see in the rides and attractions? The incredible worlds displayed in Miniland? All born right here.

I’m not gonna lie. It was pretty cool for me too.

Hundreds of thousands of LEGO bricks of every conceivable color and shape. All just waiting for the spark of inspiration and imagination to assemble them into practically anything in the world.

Interestingly, Jason and his team are limited (as it were) by the existing shapes and colors manufactured by LEGO. They cannot request special or custom pieces. They’re kind of like you or me….but with access to a limitless supply of bricks.

Extra credit to Jason for his shout out to STEM and STEAM education. Even if you want a career playing with LEGO bricks, science and art are still important.

As always, all questions are Zoey’s. I simply prompt her with “clue words” so she can remember. (Make sure you turn on subtitles if you can’t make out Zoey’s questions.)

Thanks so much to Jason Miller for taking the time to chat with Zoey and to Brittany Williams at LEGOLAND Florida for helping to arrange the interview!
