Ticket Giveaway: Disney On Ice Presents Dare to Dream

It’s that time again. Disney on Ice is returning to the Baltimore/Washington area, and they’re bringing a new show. This time around, it’s called Dare to Dream, and it’s got both familiar faces and fresh acts.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Disney On Ice shows, check out our reviews of Follow Your HeartWorld of Fantasy100 Years of Magic, and Treasure Trove. They should give you a good idea of what to expect: Mickey and the gang act as hosts, a variety of characters perform routines to well-known songs, and there’s a big finale at the end with everyone.

Dare to Dream is notable as the first Disney on Ice performance to include Moana, so if you (or your little ones) are fans of that movie – and who isn’t? – then you probably won’t want to miss this one.

Blog Tour: Spy on History + Giveaway

Thanks to Hamilton and our constant National Park Service Adventures, my daughter is currently fascinated by American history. Living near Washington, DC, has only stoked that interest. In fact, we recently had the opportunity to sleep over at the National Archives and literally spent the night right next to the Constitution. My daughter couldn’t have been more thrilled.

It’s no surprise, then, that Spy on History: Mary Bowser and the Civil War Spy Ring is right up our alley at the moment. It’s therefore a thrill to take part in this blog tour in support of the new book by Enigma Alberti (a pseudonym for a group of authors writing the Spy on History series) and illustrated by Tony Cliff (Delilah Dirk).

Follow Your Heart breaks the mold a little bit and focuses mostly on Pixar films. The show promises acts from Finding Dory, Inside Out, Toy Story, and Frozen (of course). Not gonna lie, we’re really looking forward to the Inside Out segment.

Treasure Trove promises acts from many of the princesses, Peter Pan, The Lion King, Alice in Wonderland, and Toy Story. As usual, they’ve tried to divide the show up so the acts target stereotypical “boys” and “girls” properties equally.

Ticket Giveaway: Disney On Ice Celebrates 100 Years of Magic

D20-1200x628-Key (1)

This year’s incarnation of the Disney On Ice show is called 100 Years of Magic. Why 100 years? Good question. As far as I can tell, that name is just figurative. Almost nothing of lasting significance happened in 1915, and it wasn’t until 1923 that Walt and Roy Disney moved to Hollywood and set up their first animation studio.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit first appeared in 1926, and Mickey Mouse made his debut (with sound) in Steamboat Willy in 1928. So if we’re really meant to celebrate 100 years of magic with these characters, we still have a ways to go. But “87 Years of Magic” doesn’t have quite the same ring to it.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Disney On Ice shows, check out our review of last year’s show: World of Fantasy. It should give you a good idea of what to expect: Mickey acts as host, a variety of characters perform routines to well-known songs, Anna and Elsa serenade the crowd, and there’s a big finale at the end with everyone.

Giveaway: Thomas and Friends Mini Trains

IMG_9436

I’m running a quick giveaway here for a couple of Thomas and Friends Mini Trains. Why? Well, for starters, they’re pretty darn cute.

Also, during August, Virgin Atlantic and Thomas & Friends joined forces in a month long partnership to bring a screening of the new movie Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure on all international flights. Children on those flights also received kids packs that included a coloring book and a Thomas mini train.

And finally, that new movie (Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure) is now available on Blu/DVD and digital download.

That’s right, Percy’s back! (Click here for our review of last year’s event when Percy was unveiled for the first time.)

From June 20–28, both Thomas and Percy will be giving rides at Strasburg Rail Road! Additional activities include photo ops with Sir Topham Hatt, art-and-crafts stations, more train tables and Thomas toys that you’ve ever seen assembled in one place, and storytelling sessions, among other things.

Giveaway: Bazooka Joe prize pack

bazooka

Believe it or not, Bazooka Joe is 60 years old! Doesn’t look a day over 12 if you ask me. I still remember going to the 7-11 on the corner when I was a kid and buying loose, single sticks of Bazooka Joe gum (off the bottom candy rack) for 5 cents each.

And get off my lawn while you’re at it!

To celebrate the anniversary, the brand is getting a bit of a makeover. Topps (Bazooka’s parent company) has enlisted the aid of four stellar illustrators who will design new looks for Bazooka Joe: Benjamin Balistreri (How to Train Your Dragon), Robert Lilly (Nickelodeon Animation Studios), Ben Reynolds (mobile Games for Ghostbusters and Monster Pet Shop), and Victor Instrasomnbat (Clockwork Animation).

Ticket Giveaway: Disney on Ice presents Worlds of Fantasy

5855019_origDisney on Ice is still putting costumed characters on ice skates. Seems dangerous to me, but the performers at these shows are actually pretty impressive.

The Worlds of Fantasy show includes four separate storylines: Tinker Bell, The Little Mermaid, Cars, and Toy Story. Ostensibly, that’s two “for the girls” and two “for the boys.”

McQueen and Mater should be interesting—I’m not exactly sure how that’ll work or if there will actually be people inside on ice skates.

One thing that’s for sure, though, is that there will be plenty of familiar songs for the kids to groove along to. With these four storylines, we’re sure to at least get Under the Sea, Part of Your World, and You’ve Got a Friend in Me.

I’ve even got a nice little surprise for this one. Click here to download a coloring sheet with these characters. Enjoy!

Ticket Giveaway: Monster Jam

Print

This is one my son will go absolutely bananas for. Gigantic monster trucks crashing into and crushing things in their way? That’s pretty much his whole schtick while playing with his cars.

Approximately 12 feet tall and about 12 feet wide, Monster Jam trucks are custom-designed machines that sit atop 66-inch-tall tires and weigh a minimum of 10,000 pounds. Built for short, high-powered bursts of speed, the trucks generate 1,500 to 2,000 horsepower and are capable of speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. They can fly up to 125 to 130 feet (a distance greater than 14 cars side by side) and up to 35 feet in the air!

If you’re in the Washington, DC area, the Monster Jam show is returning to the area in the Verizon Center on January 24 and 25.

Seats start at $25 for adults and $10 for kids (ages 2-12). Pit Party Passes for Saturday and Sunday are also available for purchase (which include up-close views of the massive Monster Jam trucks and the opportunity to meet some of the drivers).

Tickets are available at the Verizon Center box office, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at 800-745-3000.

However! I have a family 4-pack of tickets to giveaway to a lucky reader. The tickets are for the 2:00 show on Saturday, January 24, 2015. Just enter with the widget below, and good luck!

Ticket Giveaway – Disney On Ice: Frozen

FZ-FacebookRightRail[2]

Yeah, I’m gonna do it: Frozen is still hot.

The newest Disney on Ice show from Feld Entertainment is themed entirely around the gang from Arendelle. The Academy Award winning tale will be told live for the first time in this production, and it will of course include Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf.

And yes, all the songs are also included, so you can go home humming “Let It Go” all over again.

The show isn’t a straight-up retelling of the movie, though. It’s hosted by Mickey and Minnie Mouse, with special guest appearances by some of the Disney Princesses and characters from Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and The Lion King.

Ticket Giveaway for Big Apple Circus

Big Apple Circus

Coming soon to the Dulles Town Center in Sterling, VA, just outside of DC!

Full disclosure that I’ve never seen the Big Apple Circus before, but it seems to be a nice mix of traditional big-top circus and more “Cirque du Soleil” type theatrics. They do use live animals, but I don’t see mention of any “big” animals, such as elephants or lions.

From their press release:  You will be thrilled by the Flying Trapeze, the razzle-dazzle of the Rolla-Bolla, the dynamo of the Diablo, the risky rhythms of the Risley team, the cunning conjurors of the Quick-Change, and the incredible flexible limbs of the Contortionists.

Big Apple Circus

Save $10 off with promo code BIGAPPLE (*Limited availability. Offer good on select seats and shows. Children under 3 are free when seated on the lap of a paid adult.)

Additionally, Big Apple Circus has made two tickets available to Roarbots readers for the opening night performance on Thursday, September 18 (7:00 pm). Enter using the widget below, and good luck!
