I don’t contribute to a lot of Kickstarter campaigns. At least, historically, I haven’t. But this one looks like a solid bet. Beastie Bash! is a kids card game that encourages imaginative and creative play.

The object of the game is to combine character cards for the most points possible. This will result in silly mashups, such as a Singing Robot and a Mechanical Mermaid. If you have kids, you know that such mashups are surefire comedy gold! It’s also a quick play at 15-20 minutes, which is nice for little ones.

What sets this apart (and really made me back it), though, is the art. The character art is getting revealed one per day as the campaign continues, and so far they all look fantastic. I’d love to see a comic book or animated show with these designs. (Note to Eric and the rest of the gang creating this game: that’s another Kickstarter I would definitely back.)

In some respects, this game is similar to another Kickstarter game I backed: Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule. Simple card mechanics; silly mashups; and amazing art. GDFR had the advantage of Mike Maihack doing all the art, but I won’t hold that against Beastie Bash. The art we’ve seen so far is incredible.

Full disclosure time: I’m good friends with one of the guys from 8th Level Entertainment, the wizards behind this game. I’d like to see the game succeed, but seeing as it’s already almost halfway to the goal with 32 days to go, I think they’re going to be just fine.

  1. Thanks for such a wonderful review! I’m thrilled that you think so highly of my art and our game. Great idea about comics and animation. This is my first game, but I’ve been an animator and kids book author since for almost 20 years. My personal dream is to make Beastie Bash! toys that you can mix and match.

  2. Where can I buy it?

    1. Unfortunately, the Kickstarter was canceled, and the project never materialized. Like you, I’m still waiting to see if it becomes a reality.
