I have good news and bad news.

The good news is that the Hallmark Star Wars Storyteller ornaments are here for 2019.

The bad news is that they’re the last ones.

Well, that’s what Hallmark currently currently says. With the arrival of the Imperial Star Destroyer and Y-Wing Fighter, the A New Hope line of ornaments is complete. Hopefully that means we’ll see a new series based on The Empire Strikes Back, but we won’t know for sure until next summer.

In the meantime, bask in the power of this fully operational ornament display.

That’s right, it’s nearly 9 minutes of A New Hope goodness. Well, 8:55 to be exact. That’s up significantly from last year’s 7 minutes and 30 seconds.

Bringing us dialogue from the beginning of the movie is the Imperial Star Destroyer, with the requisite Tantive IV being pulled in by a tractor beam. It also provides additional Imperial chatter during the Death Star battle (as well as taking part in the battle itself).

To round out the Rebel troops, we’re getting a Y-Wing Fighter. It’s a really gorgeous model. The only problem is that the audio is pulled straight from the movie, which means that the Y-Wing’s lines are a bit of a garbled mess…just like in the move. I’m also a little surprised that Hallmark didn’t go with Luke’s landspeeder or a Jawa sandcrawler to fill in the gaps between Leia’s initial capture and the destruction of Alderaan (which is where the ornaments started the story last year). Still, the Y-Wing makes the most sense hanging on the wreath with the rest of the line.

To tie it all together, you’ll want to pick up a black Star Galaxy wreath. It’s the perfect backdrop for your ornaments (and their new permanent home when your significant other throws up their hands, says “enough,” and banishes the ornaments from the tree).

The Storyteller line has, hands-down, been my favorite ornament series since I started collecting Star Wars ornaments some 20+ years ago. I’m sad to see it wrap up, but I hope we’ll see a new series next year for The Empire Strikes Back. Bring on the AT-ATs!
