GBBP 230: Kevin Kiner

Unless you’ve been taking your self-quarantine to an extreme, you likely know that Star Wars: The Clone Wars is finally back on Disney+ for its final season. And along for the ride is almost the entire original creative team, from Dave Filoni to James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan) to Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka) to Matt Lanter (Anakin) to Dee Bradley Baker (Clones) to Kevin Kiner!

That’s right, Kiner is back to give the show the continuity of sound and music that fans have come to expect from the franchise. Having composed the first six seasons of The Clone Wars, along with all of Star Wars Rebels, Kiner is no stranger to the galaxy far, far away.

In fact, no one’s composed more music for Star Wars than Kevin Kiner – not even John Williams.

And fans of Kiner’s music – really, fans of music in general – should rejoice at the trend Disney is setting with their high-profile Disney+ originals: making a huge portion of the music available via soundtrack releases. Whereas Ludwig Göransson’s score for The Mandalorian got full releases FOR EACH EPISODE, The Clone Wars is seeing Kiner’s music released in batches of four episodes. The first, for Episodes 1-4, is available now.

The soundtrack for Episodes 5-8 will be released on April 10, and Episodes 9-12 will drop on May 4. It’s a great time to be a soundtrack fan. Truly, we’re spoiled by quantity AND quality.
