I’ll admit it. We’ll buy pretty much anything by the Aw Yeah! guys. Super-Pets, Tiny Titans, Superman Family Adventures, even Battlestar Galactica(!). Art and Franco can do no wrong in my house.

So when we saw Captain Action Cat beckoning to us from the slew of new comics this week, we had to have it. And it doesn’t disappoint.

My familiarity with the character of Captain Action is admittedly fairly low. Like, I’m aware that he existed. That’s about it. So I’m sure there were some jokes here that went right over my head. And if you’ve ever read Tiny Titans (any issue), you know that these guys are notorious for packing in obscure references and in-jokes.

However, you don’t need in-depth knowledge of Captain Action to enjoy this issue. Clearly. So, what do we have?

We have modern-day Action Cat battling Evil Cat, who uses his evil timestream device to reach back to the Silver Age where Captain Action Cat is battling Dr. Evil Cat, who stumbles upon an iceberg and frees the Golden Age Action Cat. Confused? Yeah, you probably will be. I was. And I know Zoey was.

Still, it doesn’t much matter. By the end of the issue, it all sort of makes sense. And it ends on a cliffhanger that’ll bring us back for issue 2.

If you’re a fan of any of the other Aw Yeah! comics or the Super-Pets books, you’ll love the style here. It’s more of what you love…and “if it ain’t broke…”

Verdict? Zoey loves anything these guys put out. So we have a winner here. Like I said, we’ll be back for issue 2…and probably beyond.
