If you’re a fan of games like Pokemon Go but would rather flex your spell-casting muscles, WB has the game for you. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is their new release that is going to be casting a spell on a phone near you.

Niantic became a household name in the summer of 2016 when they released the hit game Pokemon Go, which was an evolution of their previous game Ingress. And it looks like they have been brewing their next hit.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is being codeveloped by Niantic and WB Games San Francisco and will place players in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Magical Beasts. The Ministry of Magic and the International Confederation of Wizards have started a new strike team tasked with solving the mystery of “The Calamity” by finding its source.

“The Calamity” consists of magical items, creatures, people, and memories being revealed to the Muggle world. As part of the Statute of Secrecy task force, it is your job to follow the traces of these magical forces and cast them back to the Wizarding World where they belong. While you are out on your adventures, you will come across reagents that you will use to brew potions to help you in your journey. As your spell energy drains, you will have to stop at inns to get food and drink to recover. Perhaps the most unique part of your journey will be using port keys to visit famous locations from the movies.

You will come across fortresses that have witches and wizards for you to test your spells against. These promise to be difficult battles that you will want to do with others in order to unlock greater rewards.

I am pretty excited about this announcement. I have no affinity for the Pokemon franchise, but I loved playing Niantic’s last game. This time around, I am excited about the Harry Potter license and that this game seems to have more features than Pokemon Go. You can sign up for preregistration for Android here and you might be able to get into early access for the game. It will also be coming out for iOS, but you will have to study divination to gleam a release date.
