Perhaps you’ve heard (and sorry to spoil it if you haven’t) – but Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is bodaciously awesome. Some might call it #RoarWorthy. (I think everyone on this site would.) If you’re one of those people who skips movies in theaters so you can watch it at home… you’re in luck as it hits Blu-ray and DVD this week.

To give you a slight backstory… I wasn’t sure what to initially expect with it. It wasn’t something I was waiting on for a long time (like Alita), and I have an odd relationship with Spider-Man films (I think Spider-Man 2 is the most character-driven superhero movie ever (and just an incredible film), whereas all the others range somewhere between “outlandishly bad” and “fine, I guess.”) As such, I wasn’t really expecting much out of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. I’ve never been happier to be so surprised.

  1. This is, quite possibly, the best movie I have seen in the last 5 years. Such a complete story that is told in a fresh and compelling way. The animation and cinematography is inventive and masterfully executed. My kids and I have watched this movie more than 10 times since it’s digital release, and I enjoy finding details in each screening that I missed in the prior views.

    1. I wonder if the quality of this movie negatively impacts the box office for Spider-man: Homecoming. With a great Spider-man movie just last year (and as you said, one that was so fresh and vibrant) I wonder if there’s a backlash against seeing a more traditional movie so soon after.
