Fathom Events has so much to offer the geek movie fan! Once regarded as the artsy company that brought the opera and ballet to movie theaters, Fathom has expanded exponentially and screens tons of awesome films for every type of fan. And December is no exception. So without further ado, here’s a look at the geeky films Fathom is bringing to a movie theater near you to round out 2019… When Harry Met Sally… I include this in a roundup of geek-centric films because… well, because why not? When Harry Met Sally is an awesome film directed by the great Rob Reiner (This is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, Stand By Me, Misery). And because it features Carrie Fisher in an amazing supporting role! There are only two showings – on December 1 and 3 – so don’t delay if you’ve got a soft spot for Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counter Attack I know there are armies of Gundam fans out there. Sadly, I’m not part of that crowd. It’s not that I actively dislike Gundam; I’ve just never seen anything from the franchise. Still, don’t let my ignorance deter you. Char’s Counter Attack will have just one screening on December 5 (subbed). The Fathom screening features a special interview with franchise creator Yoshiyuki Tomino, and guests receive a commemorative poster! They Shall Not Grow Old In case you missed it earlier this year when it had a limited theatrical run, Peter Jackson’s remarkable documentary that shows World War I in a whole new light gets several more screenings this month: December 7, 17, and 18. Jackson and his team used state-of-the-art technology to restore, colorize, and enhance original archival footage, bringing to life the very people who were there, over a century ago. The event includes an exclusive introduction from Jackson, along with a behind-the-scenes look at how the documentary was made, its historical accuracy and why the project was so important to him. Promare (Redux) Back by popular demand, Studio TRIGGER’s first feature-length film returns to theaters! Promare uses a bold cel-shaded visual style to tell a blistering action-adventure story, and it’s the spiritual successor to many of director Imaishi’s former works. The film comes with three different viewing options: December 8 (subbed), December 10 (dubbed), December 11 (dubbed 4DX). This exclusive encore event will also feature a special prequel short: “SIDE: GALO.” The Tale of the Princess Kaguya December’s installment – and the LAST entry – in this year’s Ghibli Fest is 2013’s The Tale of the Princess Kaguya – Isao Takahata’s final film as director. It’s an incredibly emotional film, so be prepared. Screenings will be on December 16 (dubbed) and 18 (subbed).
