Fathom Events has so much to offer the geek movie fan! Once regarded as the artsy company that brought the opera and ballet to movie theaters, Fathom has expanded exponentially and screens tons of awesome films for every type of fan. And February is no exception. So without further ado, here’s a look at the geeky films Fathom is bringing to a movie theater near you to keep you warm this month… Ride Your Wave Ride Your Wave is director Masaaki Yuasa’s “deeply emotional new film that applies his trademark visual ingenuity to a tale of romance, grief, and self-discovery.” Yuasa also directed Lu Over the Wall and The Night is Short, Walk on Girl, so click there to see our reviews of his earlier films. Ride Your Wave will have one (subtitled) screening on February 19. Cyrano de Bergerac James McAvoy is a bit of a geeky icon. He plays young Professor X in the X-Men movies, so this is your chance to see him break out of that mold and bring Cyrano de Bergerac to life in a modern adaptation from director Jamie Lloyd. (Lloyd also directed fellow superheroes Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Cox in Betrayal on Broadway. I saw it; it was excellent.) Cyrano will be screened on February 20 live from London’s National Theatre. The Color Purple Commemorating the 35th anniversary of the film. This might not scream “geeky movie,” but come on – it was directed by Steven Spielberg. Of course we’re going to include it here. The film will screen on February 23 only and feature some “insights” from Turner Classic Movies beforehand. Love Live! Series 9th Anniversary LOVE LIVE! FEST Filmed live at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, Love Live! Series 9th Anniversary LOVE LIVE! FEST will feature not only “Aqours” from Love Live! Sunshine!! and “Nijigasaki High School Idol Club” from the newest game but also “μ’s” from Love Live!, which has not been on stage since 2016. This screening takes place on February 25 and is 3 1/2 hours long. So go prepared. You Might Also Like...
