Regular Roarbots readers will know that we’ve been working with Fathom Events this year on the Ghibli Fest and offering ticket giveaways for all nine of the films in that series. There are still three to go before the end of the year, so keep an eye out for Spirited Away later this month. But Fathom Events has so much more to offer the geek movie fan! Once regarded as the artsy company that brought the opera and ballet to movie theaters, Fathom has expanded exponentially and screens tons of awesome films for every type of fan. And October is positively overflowing with stellar options. So without further ado, here’s a look at the geeky films Fathom is bringing to a movie theater near you this month… Ghostbusters “When someone asks if you’re a god, you say yes!” To celebrate the original film’s 35th anniversary, Ghostbusters will have showings on October 6 and 10. In addition, the film will be preceded by an introduction with newly unearthed and rarely seen alternate takes! Alien The scariest movie ever made is turning 40 this year, and it’s back on the big screen October 13, 15, and 16. Just in time for Halloween! Before the film will be some exclusive insight from Turner Classic Movies. Jay & Silent Bob Reboot Honestly, I’m not sure why this is getting a Fathom release. I mean, I love Kevin Smith – and I enjoyed the heck out Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back back in the day – but this looks all kinds of awful. Still, if it’s your thing, then it’s showing October 15 and 17. The October 15 showing will have an introduction from Smith, bonus content, and an exclusive commemorative poster (limited quantities). On October 17, you can enjoy a double feature with Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back plus the aforementioned bonus content. QT8: The First Eight Fans of Quentin Tarantino will want to check this one out on October 21. “As Tarantino’s newest film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood arrives to praise and controversy, filmmaker Tara Wood takes us on a journey through the first 8 wildly divergent films that Tarantino has helmed, narrated by the actors and collaborators who have worked with him. From Reservoir Dogs through The Hateful Eight, from the video store to the fall of Harvey Weinstein, QT8 digs deep into the story of the most important and controversial filmmaker of our time.” Jeepers Creepers 3 Want to add a little horror to your Halloween? This 2017 film is presented on October 24 with exclusive event features, bonus footage, and an interview with Jonathan Breck, who plays The Creeper in all three films in the franchise. Spirited Away The latest installment in this year’s Ghibli Fest, Spirited Away feels like the perfect choice for Halloween. It was the first Miyazaki film I saw on the big screen, and it remains one of my favorite films of all time. Screenings will be on October 27 (dubbed), 28 (subbed), and 30 (dubbed). If you’d like to try your hand at a pair of free tickets, keep your eyes on the Roarbots! Cirque du Soleil: Luzia We’re enormous fans of Cirque du Soleil, so of course this one makes the monthly list. I’ve seen 20 different Cirque du Soleil shows live, but Luzia is one I haven’t seen. The show celebrates the richness of Mexican culture, and – like Fathom’s opera and ballet screenings – you’re sure to have better than the best seat in the house. Luzia will have only one showing, so don’t miss it on October 29. You Might Also Like...
