It’s certainly no secret that we here at The Roarbots are big fans of the new trend of films showed live with a full symphony playing the score. We’ve fawned over the Wolf Trap performances of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and we’ve covered similar shows focused on Pixar, Disney, and Dreamworks Animation. And now? Well, who wouldn’t be excited about Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone with a live orchestra playing John Williams’s sweeping score? Not us, that’s for sure. The Harry Potter Film Concert Series is a new concert tour that features a live symphony orchestra performing, to picture, every note from the Harry Potter films beginning with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. For Potterphiles, this is just about the best news this summer could bring (well, aside from the book release of the script for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, but that’s another story…) The new series is produced by CineConcerts, whose entire business model is based on these “live concert film” performances. We recently saw Dreamworks Animation in Concert (also produced by CineConcerts and conducted by Justin Freer), and we were incredibly impressed. So we have high hopes for Harry Potter. And if this really is the beginning of the road for the Harry Potter Film Concert Series, we’ll be anxiously awaiting the next seven installments. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone will have three performances (August 4-6) with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra before going on the road. Tickets for the Baltimore shows start at $35 (concerts at both Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and The Music Center at Strathmore) and are available through the BSO Ticket Office (410.783.8000, 877.BSO.1444) or online at BSOmusic.org. Check here for future tour dates. Don’t be a Muggle and miss out on this incredible show! You Might Also Like...
