There’s a moment in the trailer for the upcoming Marvel Hero Project where one of the heroes says, “I can’t see anything, and that includes limits for myself.” In a scripted superhero film, that line would probably evoke an audible groan. Because come on, that’s pure cheese. But when it’s said by a real kid, who happens to be blind, and who isn’t letting anything stand in the way of his dream to play for the NFL? I’m sorry, but it just feels perfect. And it’s precisely the tone that Marvel is going for with the upcoming Marvel Hero Project, landing on the Disney+ streaming platform when it launches on November 12. The show will put the spotlight on kids who have shown how they became a hero in their communities, culminating in a surprise that makes them the star of their own Marvel comic. Spotlighted in the trailer are kids who are standing up, speaking out, and refusing to let their “limits” define who they are or what they’re capable of. There’s a LOT of great content coming to the Disney+ platform in November (and in the coming years), but this show – which feels fresh and unique and NECESSARY – is one of the shows I’m most anxious to see. There’ll always be a place for comic book superheroes, and I’m not knocking the many Marvel shows coming to Disney+ (I’m super jazzed about most of them), but a show that turns the vast resources of Disney and Marvel onto some real-life superheroes who happen to be kids? There doesn’t seem to be a better contender for Show of the Year to Watch as a Family. It promises inspiration aplenty for viewers of all ages. At last weekend’s New York Comic Con, the show got an unveiling of sorts during its Saturday panel. Those in attendance were treated to an exclusive clip from the show, which is now online for everyone to enjoy: Moderated by Lorraine Cink, the panel included Sarah Amos (Marvel Vice President, Head of Development and Production, New Media), Sana Amanat (Marvel VP, Content & Character Development), and Stephen Wacker (Marvel VP, Creative & Content Development). Also joining the panel were Jordan, the young hero at the center of that clip above, and Haley, who will be the focus of another episode. I, for one, will have it queued up and ready to go. You should, too. Just maybe have some Kleenex handy. You Might Also Like...
