What’s more summer than an epic outdoor music festival? Remember the days when traveling “event” shows like Lollapalooza and the HORDE Tour defined the summer? I sure do, but I’m old.

If you haven’t been paying attention, you might be surprised to learn that elaborate summer music festivals not only still exist but have probably never been bigger. Events like Coachella (check out our memories of the 2002 show here), Bonnaroo, Firefly, Pitchfork, and – this year – Woodstock all very much define the summer experience.

Whereas many festivals (like the ones I just mentioned) have name recognition and are events people plan entire seasons around, there are plenty of “smaller” festivals that still span multiple days and feature incredible acts. And one of those is Baltimore’s own Moonrise Festival.

Held this year on August 10 and 11 at Pimlico Race Course (where the Preakness is run), Moonrise is the city’s flagship electronic music festival. When most people think of EDM festivals, they probably think of Miami – not Baltimore.

Still, this will be the sixth consecutive year Moonrise packs the partiers into Pimlico. For old-timers like me, Tiesto is a significant draw. Other headliners include Excision, 21 Savage, Illenium, Alan Walker, Zhu, blackbear, Gryffin, San Holo, Ganja White Night, Seven Lions, Slushii, Kshmr, Yellow Claw, Jai Wolf, Smokepurpp, Space Jesus, Peekaboo, Nora En Pure, Shiba San, Justin Martin, and many more.

So, it’s probably safe to say there will be plenty of new-to-you acts on Moonrise’s four stages – from electro and dubstep to house and rap. The show typically draws in over 35,000 attendees per day, so plan ahead if this is your thing.

Single-day and 2-day tickets are available now (as is parking). VIP packages are also available, which include express entry and access to premium viewing, bars, and restrooms (with A/C). They also throw in a bunch of Moonrise swag, so check it out if that’s your thing.

And if you’d rather try your luck and win tickets, click here for a chance to a pair of general admission tickets or click here for a chance at a 4-pack of VIP tickets!
