This post was written by guest contributor Michael Kaufman. Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet (streaming now on Apple TV+) is bringing us back into the world of the fictional massively multiplayer online role-playing game with a special quarantine-themed episode! The Mythic Quest team is dealing with social isolation, just like the rest of the world: some better than others, but all in it together. The brand-new half-hour episode – Mythic Quest: Quarantine – features Poppy (Charlotte Nicdao) and Ian (Rob McElhenney) as they grapple with the restraints of solitude, whereas Brad (Danny Pudi) and David (David Hornsby) engage in some “friendly” competition. And mirroring the personal experience of many of us, Jo (Jessie Ennis) tries to explain video conferencing to CW (F. Murray Abraham) with mixed results. Once again, the incredible cast finds the humor and emotion in experiences the public can identify with. The interpersonal relationships within the Mythic Quest team are richer and deeper than “just comedy.” In this episode, we get to see the emotions simmering just beneath the surface during COVID-19 social isolation – the same sentiments so many of us are feeling and have come to know so well. In the real world, the cast and crew worked remotely in multiple locations across the country to produce the episode, which was filmed entirely on iPhones. “Lots of workplaces are figuring out this whole working-from-home thing, and the gaming industry is no different. Virtual meetings are a new and special kind of hell, so I think people will relate,” said co-creator Rob McElhenney. “Yes, we’ve all had low points, but there have also been incredible moments of triumph and we wanted to celebrate that.” If you have not yet enjoyed the first season of Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet, it’s available for streaming on Apple TV+. Check out our previous review of the show, which introduces the characters and will no doubt whet your appetite. Then go enjoy Mythic Quest: Quarantine and get ready for more. The series has been picked up for a second season! Apple TV+ is available on the Apple TV app on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod touch, Mac, select Samsung smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV, and Roku devices for $4.99 per month with a seven-day free trial.
