In a sign of what is surely to become a new normal, Penguin Random House is launching its first-ever, 100% safe, social-distance regulation adherent, choose-your-own-adventure VIRTUAL CON! Actual good news, everybody! All you need to participate in #PRHVirtualCon is an internet connection and a device with which to connect to it from the increasingly familiar comfort of wherever you happen to be spending your shelter-in-place timeline. Events will be held across Penguin Random House’s social media platforms between 9 am and 7 pm on April 24th (which is this coming Friday, if you’re having difficulty keeping track). What kind of events will be happening? Including but not limited to: Reddit: AMAs with Naomi Novik (A Deadly Education), Kim Harrison (American Demon), and Andrea Robertson (Forged in Fire and Stars) and readings with Chris Bohjalian (The Red Lotus), Max Barry (Providence), and Camilla Lackberg (The Golden Cage) Facebook: A Geek Geek Revolution Trivia Contest with hosts Jim Butcher (The Dresden Files), Emily St. John Mandel (The Glass Hotel), Lucy Kinsley (Stepping Stones), Lev Grossman (The Magicians), and other authors of your favorite geeky properties Twitter: Chuck Wendig (Wanderers), Samantha Irby (Wow, No Thank You), and Josh Malerman (Malorie) will create an exquisite corpse story across their accounts. No, they won’t be writing about dressing up a dead body… well… they might, but for those new to the term, “exquisite corpse” refers to a group writing effort in which only the last word or phrase of a given line is passed to the next writer, and it is from that word or phrase only that they continue. There will also, of course, be giveaways and prizes. Most of them are books, and if you’re taking part, I think it’s safe to assume you enjoy that sort of thing. For a full schedule of events and a listing of giveaways/games/contests, hit up the PRHVirtualCon homepage. To follow along on April 24, keep your eyes on @PenguinRandom on Twitter, Reddit, redditblog.com, and #PRHVirtualCon. You Might Also Like...
