We get it. You’re practicing social distancing (or you should be). The kids are home from school. The libraries are closed. You’re looking for some books the kids can read (or that you can read to them)… preferably with repeat reading value. We’ve got you covered. In this series, we’ll round up and quickly recommend some books that either (a) come cheap on Amazon or your favorite local bookstore and are well worth the price or (b) have ebook versions you can quickly and easily download. Today, we’re looking at a few books featuring Marvel superheroes – for various ages. All are available digitally, and all are great fun. Disney’s various publishing imprints have been doing a bang-up job of putting out adorable picture books set in the Star Wars and Marvel universes. We’ve loved almost all of them. Spider-Man Swings Through Europe (written by Calliope Glass, illustrated by Andrew Kolb) is a tie-in to Spider-Man: Far From Home, but you don’t need to have seen it. And it doesn’t feature Mysterio. But it does follow Spidey/Peter and his friends through Venice, Prague, and London… and includes a few fun facts about each place. The art is adorable and hilarious, the story is perfect snarky Spidey, and it’s a great way for little ones to “travel” to Europe, because that certainly ain’t happening right now for real. First Day of Groot! (written by Brendan Deneen, illustrated by Cale Atkinson) is the follow-up to the absolutely adorable Night Night, Groot (by the same creative team). And this one is just as delightful. Told in verse, the story follows Rocket and Baby Groot (and a whole universe of cameos) as they set out to learn new lessons and skills… and make friends along the way. The book is meant to encourage little ones to embrace new (maybe first) experiences, but the art is filled with treasures that will have them going back for more. We covered the first of these cute early chapter book set in the animated Marvel Super Hero Adventures world (Deck the Malls), and there have been a bunch more since. They all feature Spider-Man, and they’re all worth checking out – either for independent reading or bedtime read-alouds. The stories are fun, appropriate for even the youngest readers/listeners, and super encouraging for struggling readers. Check out Sand Trap! (costarring Squirrel Girl), Mighty Marvels (Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel), Buggin’ Out (Ant-Man, Wasp), and more! Finally, something for the older kids. Stan Lee’s Master Class, from Ten Speed Press, is a collaborative effort from a host of established writers and artists. This book aims to equip aspiring artists with skills to elevate their art. Chapters are devoted to anatomy, perspective, storytelling, page design, manga, and more. It’s not for beginning artists, but if you or your young ones are already fairly decent at drawing, this book is a treasure trove of advice, techniques, and strategies. You Might Also Like...
