One of the best parts of San Diego Comic Con, even if you’re not physically in the building, is getting sneak peeks at the upcoming big and small screen properties you’re excited about. This year’s con delivered big time, blessing our voracious eye holes with more glorious geekiness than we could ever have hoped for. Here are some Roarbots favorites:

Star Trek: Picard (CBS All Access; Early 2020)

We knew it was coming, but we had no clue as to what the premise might be, nor did we we know that Jonathan Frakes would be making an appearance as Riker [ed: But will it be William or Thomas?] or that Brent Spiner, Marina Sirtis, and Jeri Ryan would be reprising the roles of Data, Deanna Troi, and Seven of Nine, respectively. [ed: It looks like Spiner will also be reprising B-4, who last appeared in Star Trek: Nemesis.]

As much as I wanted to watch Discovery, I couldn’t see my way past the price tag for CBS All Access, but now… I have already informed the hubs that it’s happening, which means I’ll finally get to watch what’s already aired, Picard, Michelle Yeoh’s promised spinoff, and lots more Trek to come.

And of course, there’s also the animated Lower Decks and Discovery offshoot Short Treks:

The Expanse S4 (Amazon Prime; December 13, 2019)

The not so little show that could, The Expanse was canceled by its original home, SyFy, after season 3 but saved by its loyal fanbase of Screaming Firehawks (myself included) and the cast and crew who, collectively, made a huge amount of noise on social media and out in the real world until someone listened. That someone was Jeff Bezos who, while problematic in a great many ways, is himself a fan of the show and made the excellent decision to purchase the rights and make Amazon Prime the new home of The Expanse.

When last we left our intrepid crew, they were taking the Roci through one of the ring gates…

It ain’t official until Avasarala drops an f-bomb.

We were also treated to a clip from what is, presumably, the first episode of season 4, in which we see Belt-born and -raised Naomi Nagata take her first ever steps under an open sky and the return of a friend we feared dearly departed: Alex Kamal’s beanie:

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power S3 (Netflix; August 2, 2019)

Listen, I watched season 2 without my kids because they were distracted and wanted to watch something else, and I absolutely adore this show. Friendship and girl power and problem solving and teamwork, it’s everything I wish I’d had to watch in the genre when I was a little. Plus, Geena Davis was added to the cast for season 3.

My Hero Academia S4 (Funimation; October 2019)

All Might has retired. The villains have a new leader. The heroes are struggling to keep the public safe and  attain the much-sought-after Number 1 hero spot.

Sure to be Plus Ultra.

Terminator: Dark Fate (Paramount; November 1, 2019)

I’ve skipped everything since Terminator 3, to be honest, but Linda Hamilton is back so I’m there. (FYI, this trailer is R rated for language.)

His Dark Materials (HBO/BBC One; Late 2019)

Okay, yes. Bad book nerd, I haven’t read these (ducks and covers). But I will. A lot of my favorite bookish folks are very excited about this series, however, so I’m including it in the list and I’m sure, once I know the basics, I will be very excited about it too.

Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (Netflix; August 30, 2019)

I loved The Dark Crystal so very much I wasn’t sure I wanted to risk returning to the world, but I am now convinced. The trailer has been out for a while but SDCC gave us a new sneak peek with some new footage.

Steven Universe: The Movie (Cartoon Network; September 2, 2019)

More Steven Universe can only be good for the world. That’s all. That’s the blurb.

Attendees also got to see footage from season 3 of The Dragon Prince and season 2 of Titans, but that footage hasn’t been posted (officially) so, alas, we haven’t had a chance to roar over it yet. Hopefully, Netflix and DC will get on that in the next couple of weeks and give the people what we want.
