Witness the Birth and Evolution of a Genius: Three Early Makoto Shinkai Films Land on Blu-ray June 16, 2022
You should know this by now, but Fathom Events and GKIDS have been quietly saving 2019 with Studio Ghibli Fest. From April through December, Studio Ghibli Fest 2019 is presenting nine of the studio’s best and most beloved films on the big screen – where they absolutely deserve to be seen. Sadly, we’re coming up on the end of the series. There’s only a few more films left, but there is none better for the spooky Halloween season that the incomparable Spirited Away! Spirited Away was the first Miyazaki film I saw on the big screen, and even though it’s not the one I’ve seen the most times (that’d be either My Neighbor Totoro or Kiki’s Delivery Service), it’s probably the one I’ve seen on the big screen the most times. It’s just so damn gorgeous. Winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature (and dozens of other awards), Spirited Away is arguably the best Studio Ghibli film of the last 20 years. And if you’ve never seen it on the big screen, then NOW is your chance! Thanks to Fathom Events and the Ghibli Fest, the film will have three screenings, so don’t miss it: October 27 and 30 (English dub) and October 28 (English subtitles). Check showtimes and theaters, and buy tickets here. And here’s the fun part. As we’re doing for all nine entries in this year’s Studio Ghibli Fest, we have a pair of tickets for one lucky Roarbots reader! The tickets will be good for one AMC or Regal theater of your choice (that’s showing the film, obviously), so check here for convenient theaters. This giveaway is now over. Thanks for entering!
