Tapsonic Bold is the new PC rhythm game from NEOWIZ, the developers of DJ Max. It includes 82 songs, featuring hit tracks from previous Tapsonic and DJ Max games in addition to original tracks made just for this version. There’s plenty of music to tap away to, and the developer has plans on adding even more in future patches. Getting Into the Game The game starts you off with a with a pretty simple main menu and since I was new to the series, I jumped into the tutorial. The tutorial essentially plays a video of the different mechanics of the game and lets you tap along. I got the gist and decided to move on to the Arcade option. Once I was in, I picked a song and figured that I would move along without issue. That’s where I was wrong. The difficulty level was astounding. Getting Into the Zone I was pretty perplexed about how difficult the game was and pretty put off by it. I went ahead and started the Mission mode expecting it to be on par with the Arcade mode. I’m glad that I didn’t write the game off, because this was the point that I really started to get into the game. The songs that it started me off on were manageable, and I started to pick up the mechanics with ease. This mode sets you on a path with attainable goals and moves you from one song to another. It introduces everything to you one step at a time and ramps the difficulty up at a moderate rate. This is the mode I should have started with. It’s All About the Encore The more I played the game, the more I enjoyed my time. I wish the game had a better way to adjust for latency because the timing on some songs seems off to me. I also wish there was a dedicated controller that I could get that would help the gameplay feel more natural. Playing on the keyboard is fine, but the spacing of the keys and how my hands naturally fall on the home row makes it easy to accidentally press the wrong inputs. I think Tapsonic Bold is a fun rhythm game, and it makes me want to play it more. I don’t think it’ll be something that will get passed around at a party, but I can see myself get better every time I play it… and I plan on playing it quite a bit. Watch me show Paige my sweet moves here, but keep in mind how difficult it is to play a rhythm game and talk at the same time. I recommend picking the game up. If you do, be sure to watch out for me on the leader boards! You Might Also Like...
