A Flintstones' Christmas in a Fruity Pebbles Christmas commercial

Chock full of sugar, riboflavin, and Christmas memories.

If you’re looking to media to get in the Christmas spirit, you could drop in a Blu-ray of Miracle on 34th Street or stream the classic It’s a Wonderful Life. Heck, maybe you’re the kind of person who would prefer to have a DVD showing nothing but the image of a roaring fireplace on loop. However, if you’re like me, then it’s childhood nostalgia that warms the heart.

Sure, Christmas shouldn’t be about consumerism, but heck, I grew up in the ’80s, when our entire Saturday mornings were nothing but continuous sets of commercials. Not only that, but don’t forget that in the days of network-only television, Christmas was practically the pinnacle of the entire programming calendar. That’s why I was thrilled to go down a massive YouTube hole and rediscover some classic gems. I polled some of the other Roarbots writers and here are 5 of our favorites:

5. Give the Gift of Entertainment – Blockbuster Video

4. Flaming Turkey Wings – Pizza Hut

3. Holiday Bells – Hershey’s Kisses

2. Happy Holidays on Ice – McDonalds

1. Part of this Nutritious Breakfast – Fruity Pebbles

I also wanted to include the classic Folgers commercial, but the quality of video on YouTube is awful. What’s your favorite? Fortunately, if we’ve gotten you in the mood for Christmas commercials, there’s plenty more where that came from.

Check out this video compilation of nearly entire hour of nothing but holiday-themed retro commercials. In this mix, you get not only the Christmas commercials you’d expect (such as the requisite Toys ‘R Us ad) but also several that you probably forgot about over the years. Watching these take me back to making out post-viewing wish lists to send to Santa, but it also makes me pine for simpler times. Regardless of whether or not you watch these for novelty or genuine nostalgia, I guarantee you’ll find a sliver of Christmas cheer along the way.
