DPCC Magical Guests

With less than two months to go until the doors open at the 2019 Denver Pop Culture Con, the final guest roster is shaping up to be a magical one. Here are just a few of the film and television stars confirmed for this year’s convention.

Summer Bishil and Hale Appleman

Summer Bishil and Hale Appleman DPCC guests

SyFy’s The Magicians is a TV-MA binge-worthy mashup of C.S. Lewis and J.K. Rowling but with more sex, drugs, murder, booze, and sex. Bishil and Appleman play the hedonistic heroes Margo and Eliot. The first three seasons are available now on Netflix.

Bishil and Appleman will be available both Saturday and Sunday for autographs and both individual and team-up photo sessions.

Tara Strong

Tara Strong is no stranger to magic. Her most well-known roles include Timmy Turner from Nickelodeon’s Fairly OddParents, My Little Pony’s Twilight Sparkle, and Raven from Teen Titans Go! With 561 credited appearances listed on IMDb, Strong is one of the most prolific voice actors of her generation.

Tara Strong will be available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for photos and autographs.

Matthew Lewis and Dan Fogler

One of the best plot arcs of the original Harry Potter series was the growth of the also-Chosen-One Neville Longbottom (Lewis) from awkward loser that nobody believed in (including his own family) to leader of the Hogwarts resistance and slayer of the final Horcrux. It remains to be seen what role Jacob Kowalski (Fogler) may play in the final act of Fantastic Beasts, but my money is on Rowling doubling down on the “lovable loser turns savior” trope and have Jacob become the new Neville. (Check out this conversation with Fogler over on The Great Big Beautiful Podcast.)

Lewis will be appearing Saturday and Sunday. Fogler will be appearing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Both actors will be available for photos and autographs.

Benedict Wong

In a logistical naming nightmare, Benedict Wong stars alongside another Benedict, Mr. Cumberbatch, as Wong, friend of Dr. Strange and guardian of the Hong Kong Sanctum. What role, if any, Wong (the character) will play in Endgame remains to be seen, but Wong (the actor) has confirmed that Wong (the character) has been chilling out in the Sanctum Sanctorum, keeping things safe while Strange is out battling mad Titans.

Benedict Wong will be available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for photos and autographs.

Lana Parrilla and Michelle Gomez

Rounding out the list of magical guests are a couple of delightfully evil practitioners of the dark arts who show that being bad doesn’t always make you a bad person. Parrilla plays the Evil Queen on Once Upon A Time, and Gomez is Madame Satan on The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. This is the crossover episode I didn’t know I needed.

Gomez will be appearing Saturday and Sunday. Parrilla will be appearing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Both actors will be available for photos and autographs.
