GBBP 170: Orlando Jones

0

Today, it’s a geekout love fest with Orlando Jones! For Valentine’s Day this year, Jones teamed up with Syfy for Geek Love Chapel. The mission? Marry a bunch of geeks (to each other) and celebrate their mutual passions and love. In a world divided by hate and strife, we’re 100% on board with a celebration of beauty and love, no matter how “corny” it might seem to some.

Jones has become a familiar face on film and TV, and an even more familiar comedic voice. You might recognize him from his many 7-Up commercials. You might also know him as Mr. Nancy on American Gods, as Frank Irving on Sleepy Hollow, or from his long stint on MADtv. He’s also had roles in The Replacements, Evolution, The Time Machine, and many others. What you might not know is that he actually started his career on the other side of the camera. The WAY other side. He started out writing and producing shows such as A Different World, Roc, MADtv, and of course The Orlando Jones Show.

On this episode, we chat with Jones about why he likes marrying people and why it’s so necessary now. We also talk about his direct, candid, and unfiltered connection to fans; how Billy Dee Williams shaped his young fandom; the future of Lando with Donald Glover; and the fanboy/fangirl divide. He’s a self-professed “14-year-old fangirl.”
