It’s not even October, but we’re already feeling those spooky vibes of the quickly approaching Halloween season. If you’re like me, then you want to cultivate an entire month of creepy consumption. While you may be naturally inclined to put timeless Halloween movies on your watch list; fortunately, there are several new additions that are right up our alley. Check out these upcoming must-watch releases: Creepshow Premieres Thursday, September 26 @ 9PM ET on Shudder. If you don’t already have a subscription to horror streaming service Shudder, then this may just be the series to make you sign up. Based on the original horror anthology movies, the new Creepshow sticks to its roots by kicking off its first episode with horror heavyweights Adrienne Barbeau and Tobin Bell in “Grey Matter,” which is directed by Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead) and based on a Stephen King short story. The second vignette, “The House of the Head” has me sold on the description alone: “Evie’s dolls are some of her favorite companions, but when a severed toy head appears in their dollhouse and starts murdering, Evie can’t protect them. Are her favorite dolls next? Or worse, if it escapes the confines of the dollhouse… is she next?” From the reviews online, the hype on this one is well deserved. Check out the trailer below: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark Releases on digital, 4K Ultra HD, and Blu-ray Combo on October 22. Coming to On Demand November 5. If you’re from my generation, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is one of those iconic centerpieces of your childhood. The creepy book series left some indelible images in your mind long after reading. While there were some iconic illustrations, the terror was mostly theater of the mind using your imagination. Well, imagine no longer as the unnerving tales are on full display in the new movie from Lionsgate. “It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley, where for generations the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time. For a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying home, the stories become all too real in this spine-tingling film.” Whether you want to relive your childhood, revive your nightmares, or instill new nightmares in your own children, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is a perfect addition to your home horror library.
