I should probably get this out of the way right at the top: My kids are obsessed with Gravity Falls. Obsessed.

They missed it when it was first on TV, but they caught a few episodes of the first season a while back when we borrowed a DVD from the library. It was love at first gnome, and they’ve been begging me to subscribe to Hulu for months just so they could watch the whole show. (How did they even find out it was on Hulu?)

In any case, I’m glad I never pulled the trigger and paid for Hulu, since the 3-disc Blu-ray collection of the complete series is practically perfect.

Gravity Falls became a cult favorite from practically the first episode. Fans pored over every episode, looking for clues and stringing together their own conspiracy theories in a way TV hadn’t seen since LOST.

When the show ended after a mere 40 episodes and two seasons in 2016, you could hear the wailing in the streets. Obsessed fans (of all ages) were heartbroken. Still, this wasn’t a case of a beloved show getting prematurely canceled. Gravity Falls is one of those rare shows (especially in animation) that tells a complete story and exactly matches the vision the creator originally had for it.

Creator Alex Hirsch knew where he wanted the story to go, and that’s precisely where he took Dipper, Mabel, Stan, Bill Cipher, and the rest of the show. (Check out my conversation with Hirsch here.)

Two seasons may not seem like a lot, but the writing is so solid, the acting so perfect, and the overall story so compelling that you’ll almost forgive the show for being so frustratingly short. (Check out my conversation with Jason Ritter – voice of Dipper – here.)

The complete series arrived at Roarbots HQ a couple weeks ago, and it’s not an exaggeration to say that my kids blew threw the entire show in less than a week. Thank goodness for the summer.

Even if this set contained only the show’s 40 episodes, it’d be worth the price of admission. However, it’s much more than that. Oh, so much more.

Just check out this list of extras that’ll keep you occupied and immersed in the world of Gravity Falls:

  • New audio commentaries on ALL 40 EPISODES with Alex Hirsch and various members of the cast and crew!
  • “One Crazy Summer” documentary, which is a feature-length (1 hour 45 minutes) look back at the show, including interviews with Alex Hirsch, actors Jason Ritter and Kristen Schaal, director and storyboard artist Matt Braly, writers Jeff Rowe, Shion Takeuchi and Josh Weinstein, composer Brad Breeck, and over a dozen additional members of the cast and crew.
  • “The Hirsch Twins” featurette that focuses on Alex and his twin sister Ariel (the real-life inspiration for Dipper and Mabel) as they recall their childhood summers that directly influenced the Mystery Shack, Gravity Falls, and the events of the show.
  • “Between the Pines” series finale special (22 min) that originally aired on DisneyXD around the same time as the final episode.
  • deleted scenes, shorts, promos, and probably some hidden Easter eggs I didn’t find.

Shout! Factory has outdone themselves here. The box set, episodes, and all special features are gorgeous, and this release was obviously a labor of love – much like the show itself.

If you’re a fan of the show, there’s a ton to love here. Pick up this new set. If you’ve never seen the show before, do yourself a favor and pick up this new set. Whatever you do, don’t let your life be devoid of the wonder that is Gravity Falls.
