MAGIC: THE GATHERING—CONCEPTS & LEGENDS

MAGIC: THE GATHERING—CONCEPTS & LEGENDS

I’ve only recently gotten back into playing Magic: The Gathering. After first getting hooked back in 4th edition, I’ve now picked up the new Core 2019 edition. Then and now, one of the biggest appeals of M:tG has always been the incredible artwork. Now, in the new book Magic: The Gathering: Concepts & Legends, fans can get a closer look at the illustrated history exploring the legend, lore, and origins of the bestselling strategy card game.

James Wyatt, a senior game designer at Wizards of the Coast who has extensive experience as part of the Magic: The Gathering creative team, authors the new collection celebrating 25 years of the iconic game. While I haven’t yet gotten my hands on a copy to review (soon!), as a designer myself, I’m most interested in seeing the creation process laid out for the beautiful artwork used on the cards. According to senior editor Joel Enos:

Concepts & Legends pulls from the art and design teams’ sketch books and notes to focus on where the worlds and lore of Magic: The Gathering started 25 years ago, where we are now, and where we’re going to go next, Made to highlight the 25th Anniversary of Magic: The Gathering, this is the ultimate collector’s book for Magic fans around the world.

With an MSRP of $39.99 and published by Viz Media, Magic: The Gathering: Concepts & Legends was released on October 23, 2018 and is now available for purchase. I’ll be reviewing this deluxe slip-cased, hardcover volume with collectible art prints in the near future. Keep checking out The Roarbots for the latest news and reviews featuring Magic: The Gathering.
