Sure, there are trailers and series announcements, and y’know, comics news to be had at SDCC. But for this collector, ABS plastic runs in my veins, so toy reveals are my big draw for the biggest comic convention of the year.

With dozens of new action figure reveals—some based off the comics, some off the movies, some off old cartoons and trading cards—Marvel didn’t disappoint. There were far too many to list them all, but here are my top 8:

Jennifer Walters – Hulk

Hasbro-Marvel-Legends-Hulk

Jen SMASH!

Based on the 2016-2017 Hulk series, this figure is comic book-perfect. In that series, Jennifer Walters is dealing with the trauma of nearly dying at the hands of Thanos (as well as the apparent death of Bruce Banner…he got better). As the only Hulk on the block, she had…anger issues, and this figure captures Jen in all her gamma-irradiated glory.

Cosmic Ghost Rider

Hiya. Name’s Frank.

(Cosmic Ghost Rider, i.e., the character everyone thought was Deadpool.) Another circa 2016 character, Cosmic Ghost Rider was introduced towards the end of Thanos. While it took a bit for his true identity to be revealed, the payoff, that this was actually a version of Frank Castle driven completely insane by eternal life and the Power Cosmic, is still one of my favorite modern origin stories.

Squirrel Girl

Hasbro-Marvel-Legends-Squirrel-Girl

The “Unbeatable” is there for a reason.

It’s Squirrel Girl riding a Vespa with Tippy-Toe and her other squirrel friends. Unless you are a heartless, soulless automaton, you shouldn’t need anything more than that. While I wish that the design was based more off the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl version (she looks a lot more like her U.S. Avengers iteration here), it’s the first time we’ve gotten Doreen Green in plastic form. I’ll take two.

Marvel Legends Series X-Men 3-Pack (Wolverine, Jean Grey, and Cyclops)

Hasbro-Marvel-Legends-X-Men-3-Pack

Cyclops has sensible glasses for every occasion. Logan brings bone claws as a backup.

If you grew up like I did on X-Men: The Animated Series back in the ’90s, you’re going to instantly recognize the costumes of this trio. This is the X-Men in their most iconic yellow and blue costumes, with plenty of extra heads and hands for different situations (or, in Cyclops’s case – most-to-least boring headgear). Honestly, I wasn’t going to buy this until I saw the unmasked Wolvie comes with a cowl accessory to put around his neck. That kind of detail should be rewarded.

Marvel Legends Series X-Men 2-Pack (Havok & Polaris)

Dayglo in the best way.

Continuing with the ’90s feels is this awesome duo of Havok and Polaris, again in that iconic yellow and blue. The trading cards which inspired these figures are featured on the back of the packaging and it really does look like these figures are that classic artwork, but in three dimensions. Just look at that giant hair! The shoulder pads! The unnecessary jackets! The 90s really were peak ridiculous superhero costuming done right.

Make sure you check out HasbroPulse throughout the weekend – Hasbro has been making pre-orders for new figures available almost as soon as they’re announced!
