Since the early days of the Unicron campaign, there’s been one thing and one thing only that the fans have pined for.

“Where is our beard?”

“No beard. No Unicron.”

“Give us Beard Daddy Unicron, you cowards.”

Well you can put down your transforming pitchforks. The latest Unicron update from Hasbro highlights two fantastic accessories.

And, yes, an interchangeable goatee is one of them.

Unicron Beard Galvatron

Beardy ‘Cron and Galvy

The other is a teeny-tiny 1.5″ non-articulated Galvatron, based on the Titans Return figure from a few years back. Surprisingly detailed for the size, he’s still fairly basic. Meant more to be held in Unicron’s free hand as he dangles him over his open mouth (a la Transformers: The Movie).

Deliver unto Unicron that which is Unicron’s

Since the announcement, I’ve seen angry comments that Galvatron is based on the wrong toy, too purple, not purple enough, and simultaneously too large and too small. Leading me to believe not that Hasbro got it wrong but that Transformers fans are some of the hardest to please fans this side of the 80s.

And while I’d say that some of that vitriol is just fans trying to talk themselves out of a $574 preorder, the opposite seems to be true. With less than 4 days to go, Unicron has reached over 5,000 backers and seems well on his way to reaching the required 8,000 backers.

In fact, if you dig around for “my cousin knows a guy who knows a reseller” rumors, you’ll see that there are some saying that third-party and international resellers, who will place their orders during the final 24 hours, have well over 3,000 orders ready to add to the total.

Unicron was a longshot – but then the chance to create something this big, this detailed, this fantastic could have only happened right now, when G1 Transformers fans are at peak nostalgia (and peak disposable income). I doubt we’ll ever have the opportunity to back something this incredible again.

And if the addition of new accessories isn’t enough, check out this amazing transformation from planet to bot mode (yeah, I know their arrow is pointing the wrong way)! Get a coffee and enjoy the Bossanova.

For those of you sitting on the fence, there’s still time! Head over to the Unicron campaign page and get your preorder in before Saturday!
